I held the flash low camera left and pointed up towards Charlie and camera in right hand, power to the flash was on the low side to. To help separate the background I went for F11 and 1/250 sec. If I pull out the umbrella to shoot through, he’ll scatter or move. I find it’s good practise shooting the animals as they don’t complain as much as people.

Love the cat shot! How did you get that pic, i.e. with the black background and localized flash?

I started out with just the one Flash and put it on the floor angled up picture right. I took a couple of shots and decided to pull out my second flash and had that coming from high angled towards the Guitar's body. Really find reading the Strobist blog and Lighting 101 has been really helpful.

Great shots, as always – how did you get the flash so focused – I mean, so that it isn’t lighting up the entire shot, just the bit you want?

Really like the whistling tree frog pic – really effective against that pitch black background. Nice!

I think he will, he’s off to America soon to record some of his work. He has an excellent voice.
