Project 365 – 80 – Water Study

Playing around with water – I’m surprised I haven’t tried this a little earlier than now. It’s a pretty simple technique and only a couple of things are required. I used the baking tray for my water to catch in, suspended the bag with water off my light stand and a sheet of paper to bounce the flash. I ended up going with my old 75-300 zoom with the full set of kenko extension tubes and got in close for the drop.

I did change the white balance setting to Tungsten which gives the blue look to the water.

I managed to pick up a slight reflection of myself with this drop.

There’s a few things I could try using this approach now. Different liquids, maybe Milk?  Food colouring for the drops or a liquid paint even. I do know next time I try this I’ll make sure that my flash batteries are fully charged so I can get a faster recycle time with the flash. A lot of trial and error and luck involved with your timing of the drops. I ended up watching a Movie in another part of the house and used my shutter remote. Still would like to play with some fire, that might be coming soon.

I’ll try again with the drops, maybe substitute water with milk. Few other fun things to try and shoot coming up.
