I had my first real try-out with my new Lee Filter Kit over the week-end at Currumbin Rocks. There’s a lot I still have to learn with Photography and using the Graduated Filters compared to my previous Circular Polarizes/ND’s Filters will now take some time to fine tune the results. First impressions from the day?
I’m finding with the graduated Neutral Density filters I’m able to expose the foreground a lot better without under-exposing to save blowing out the high-lights. In my new filter kit I have; 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 Grad ND’s and one 1.2Neutral Density filter. The last one I found very useful shooting under bright sun at the beach(outside the ‘Golden Hour’) at 2:30pm.
With the ability to add a grad ND filter on top, I was able to drag the shutter longer than I’d normally be able to do.
One thing I have to work out is why the Filter Holder doesn’t sit tight on the Adapter Ring. In the end I used some electrical tape to secure the Filter Holder in place. I’m now looking forward to getting out and using these filters under different circumstances and will head up to the Rain-forest on the week-end to try these out shooting waterfalls. Long as I don’t go over-board with their use I’ll be happy – seemed to do that when I got my Hoya ND filter, it just remained attached to my lens.
